Instead of finding a seat at someone else's table, build your own table.

I first met Josh Mitcham about ten years ago.  He had reunited with his band mates Floord and they came to compete in the finale of our inaugural Battle for the Big O talent competition at Diamond Lake Campground & Resort.  Propelled by Josh's lead vocals, they were sensational.   It was quite easy to see how and why they had made such a name for themselves with the college crowd at Western Kentucky University.

Since that time, Josh worked to form another group- Jericho Woods.  That was back in 2014 and, for years, the guys flirted with call of Nashville. In fact, right after they formed, Jaclyn Graves and I ran into them at the CMA Music Festival during one of our marathon CMA Music Fest broadcasts on WBKR. We were thrilled to see the guys and happily interviewed them about Jericho Woods, how they got together and where they say themselves going.

Fast forward to 2022 and much has changed.  Jericho Woods dissolved.  The COVID-19 pandemic kicked in.  And Josh decided to take an approach he really hadn't before.  He decided to work on a long-awaited solo project.

That dream is about to become a reality.  In a month, Josh will release Nobody Asked for This, which, as you can see in the cover art, was actually recorded, in its entirety, in a 100-year-old barn on his family farm in Webster, Kentucky.

Josh says the album taps into the music that shaped his own tastes.  Among those influences, he lists: Tom Petty, Ryan Adams, Butch Walker and Nada Surf.  Josh admits that his style is somewhere in between all those- "in a middle ground between country and a (Jason) Isbell-ish rock."

The first single from Josh's new album is called "Between This Bottle and You."  It was released to all streaming services the day after Christmas.  It was co-written by Josh Rinkel of the Po Ramblin Boys.

This project, in so many ways, is a very personal passion project for Josh.  He admits he didn't set out to "please Nashville or the hipsters," but says there might be "a little something for all of them."
