Southern Indiana Sheriff Issues Warning After Multiple Jury Duty Scam Complaints
I suppose if you want to send the fear of God coursing through someone's veins, you can try to convince them they've broken the law through their own inaction. Apparently, that nefarious tactic has been working in southern Indiana.
While I've been busy sifting through the many texts I've gotten threatening me with legal action if I don't pay this toll fine or that toll fine, my neighbors across the river have been receiving actual (and believable) phone calls about missing jury duty.
The Pike County Sheriff's Office has been receiving numerous complaints about these alarming conversations. It would be one thing if these were more obvious prank calls, but that's not the case. These scammers, unfortunately, do their homework.
This is not unique to Pike County, Indiana. The Kentucky State Police have also been dealing with a number of complaints about the same thing.
And now for something completely crazy. You might think that rapidly advancing technology might be a factor in the rise of such scam calls. But that "rise" is nothing new. Way back in 2006, the FBI began reporting on these mean-spirited activities, and they suggested then what they suggest now. If you get one, immediately contact your District Court.
Recently, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, scammers went all out and seriously rattled Angel Adams's cage.
These scam calls have simple fixes. For one thing, the courts don't operate that way, but if you don't know that, it shakes you up. For another thing, in this day and age, the last thing any of us needs is a breach of our peace of mind.
There are plenty of sources for that to go around.
