Why Did This Kentucky Principal Sleep on an Elementary School Roof?
Yesterday morning, when students arrived at Estes Elementary School, there was a surprise on the rooftops!

Mrs. Katy Harrison, Assistant Principal, made a promise to her Bulldog family. If the students met their reading goal, she would sleep on top of the school. So, Sunday night, she climbed to the roof and set up her tent.

It was not a restful night of slumber under the stars, but it was worth every minute to see the smiles on the kids' faces the next day! Around 9:00 PM, Mrs. Harrison contacted Central Dispatch so they would know what was going on and got ready to settle in for the night.

Around 10:00 PM, she worked on her laptop for a while before getting tired and dozing off.

Then, Mrs. Harrison tossed and turned. She woke up around 1:00, 2:00, and again at 4:30 thanks to the blaring of unexplained sirens. She finally gave up when the birds started to sing and got up to wait for students to start rolling in.

"Not the best sleep. Needed more blankets! Please don’t expect a lot from me today," was the Facebook update in the morning. "If someone wants to bring me a donut, I wouldn’t complain. What time is nap time? Asking for a friend, of course…"

The kids at Estes Elementary read 400,000 minutes! Listen to Mrs. Harrison explain why they set reading goals for students.
Reading can take you anywhere you want to go! I love the part where she said that the kids weren't sure whether someone would ACTUALLY follow through, but she told them that when the grown-ups at Estes promise something, they mean it. It's true! They prove it time and time again. Like last year, when principal Ryan Williams got a TATTOO of the bulldog mascot.
