Wild Kentucky Snowstorm Caught on Video But Western Kentucky Missed the Worst of It
The forecasts were calling for some level of late weekend snowfall as early as last Wednesday. But in the Ohio Valley, we've grown accustomed to "anything is possible" when snow is predicted.
The National Weather Service/Paducah published this advisory Monday morning, and it's about what I encountered when I drove into work.
If I was living in eastern Kentucky or other nearby locales that weren't as lucky as we were (and we were, all things considered), I'm not sure I would have enjoyed the trip.
Over in London, Kentucky, this road through the western Appalachians resembled one you might see in Colorado this time of year.
In central Kentucky, look at what a snow squall did to Interstate 65 travel. No, thank you, says me.
I'm old enough to remember being on that stretch of interstate highway just a couple of weeks ago...with my window down. When it was fall. Real fall. Alexa Minton posted this from the Kentucky-Tennessee state line on I-75. I've driven it, and there's no way I'd want to be on it in weather like this. A few miles up 75, it somehow looked much worse.
Again, I've seen tons of videos of motorists making their way through this kind of weather in the Rocky Mountains. The big difference is that they are used to it and are ready to deal with by October.
Ah, October. It was too short this year. Anyway, fellow western Kentuckians, our early shot of January will be short-lived. Normal temperatures are expected to return midweek, and then a big warm-up. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, regarding the Ohio Valley, "If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes."
