Kentucky Teen Pageant Winner Fundraises For The Children of St. Jude
MEET SHAYLEE LEONARD
Shaylee is a Freshman in High School here in Kentucky. Shaylee has been fundraising or a part of the St. Jude fundraising efforts for many years now. Whether she came to the WBKR radio station and helped as a volunteer or she showed up to other fundraising events. Shaylee has basically grown up learning about the children and their families at St. Jude and had a desire to make a difference.
Shaylee came and spent time on the treadmills at Sweatin' for St. Jude. This particular day the community was invited out to hop on treadmills for a period of time in honor of kids at St. Jude.
Shaylee has went to help Jerry Morris and the Angels for Ashley cooking team who help to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.
BRANCHING OUT ON HER OWN TO FUNDRAISE
Have you ever heard the saying you are who you hang out with. Shaylee has become exactly that in the fact that she has spent so much time around those who have a passion for the mission of St. Jude she decided she wanted to fundraise on her own.
I asked Shaylee's mom, Laura, how Shaylee got inspired here's what she said;
Years ago she said she wanted to work with kids, either a teacher or nurse. After hearing the radio athon one year she said she could become a pediatric oncology nurse to help. She was just drawn to St Jude’s, a lot because of WBKR involvement. The first year she came in and wanted to help. she heard what Gavin Howard was doing and has said for those past few years she has wanted to do something to help raise money and not only volunteer. She has been a partner in hope since 2018. She finally came up with selling bracelets this year.
This is what Shaylee had to say about fundraising;
