Kentucky Player Makes Young Tennessee Fan’s Day [VIDEO]
Could we be seeing a calming of tensions? Could we be seeing the beginnings of MORE extensions of the olive branch? Could we rub at our eyes any harder at what happened Tuesday night in Knoxville TN?
That last thing? That’s what I did when I saw a hobbled Kentucky Wildcat team—down three players including two starters and both point guards—waltz into Thompson-Boling Arena and the Tennessee Volunteers their first home loss of the season. That wasn’t supposed to most knowledgeable observers, myself included, expected a beat down and third straight loss. Instead, the Vols allowed the ‘Cats to put up more points against them (78) than any other team this season. Final score: 78-73.
UK's Koby Brea Photo Ops With Young Tennessee Fan
But not all Tennessee fans were wailing and gnashing their teeth. In fact, one young fan sought out UK’s top scorer of the evening for a photo op he’ll never forget.
Brea, a Bronx NY native and transfer from the University of Dayton, is often the subject of Kentucky basketball highlight reels. That's because his box score often records a high number of successfully-made three-point shots. But THIS particular highlight reel figures to be a favorite of Brea's and the young man who might have to twist his parents' arm to let him wear a #4 Kentucky jersey if he so desires.
Mark Pope Facetimes a Kentucky Fan's Grandmother
There's a cool vibe with this Kentucky team, and I'm certain it starts at the top with new head coach and former UK star Mark Pope. He is also not a stranger to a postgame sideline kindness, as evidenced by his taking time to Facetime with a Kentucky fan's grandmother after the Tennessee game.
Next up for Kentucky? A Saturday visit from the Arkansas Razorbacks and their new head coach, John Calipari. I will leave you with this plea to Big Blue Nation:
Please take this former Kentucky coach's advice:
