Western KY Stores That Will Be Closed on Thanksgiving

I, for one, am happy that that brief dalliance with "Black Thursday" came to an end, and quickly, at that.

Certainly, the decision to get a jump start on Black Friday shopping by opening on Thanksgiving evening was met with approval by a FEW folks. I have friends who hit the bricks as soon as the dinner dishes were put away.

But, for the most part, fans of taking it easy on Turkey Day had the loudest voices, and so we're back to where we should be--waiting until Black Friday to get started on Christmas shopping. While there are a few stores that might be open on Thanksgiving Day, these will not.

Walmart

The box store to beat all box stores will give its employees and patrons a day to enjoy family, turkey, and football...and maybe not necessarily in that order.

Target

The box store to beat most box stores will do the same thing. I think their decision is, ahem, on target.

Kohl's

As a large man, I search long and hard to find big & tall clothing. Fortunately, I don't have to do that with Kohl's. But if I want to get that 2XLT sweatshirt, I don't mind waiting until November 24th.

Home Depot

Yeah, I know you've gotta fix that shower and do something about those panels in the garage. But that can wait. Enjoy the Lions and the Cowboys with a big piece of pumpkin pie, instead.

Academy Sports + Outdoors

Are you anxious to take advantage of great deals on camping equipment and running shoes? Well, I'd imagine Academy is anxious to sell them to you...but not so anxious that they'll be there on November 23rd to do it.

Best Buy

I've actually NEEDED Best Buy to be open on a Thanksgiving Day of the past. Guess what? I was out of luck. If it happens in 2023, I will be again.

Belk

The closest one to me is in Bowling Green, but it's worth the drive for--once again--its big & tall department. But I won't be taking that 73-mile drive this Thanksgiving.

Lowe's

Home improvement issues? Well, they can wait until the day AFTER the big feast. Hey, maybe you can find a rerun of Home Improvement.

Michaels

I know, I know. You have visions of Christmas craft projects dancing in your head. Let 'em keep dancing until Black Friday.

Walgreens

The chain where you can find a little bit of everything is the chain where you actually WON'T find something on Thanksgiving Day--an "open" sign.

Ulta Beauty

I bet you'll look just fine on Thanksgiving Day.

Bath & Body Works

So many gift ideas, I know. Guess what? They'll still be there on Black Friday.

I also say, "No THANKS to Thanksgiving shopping. I'd just as soon have another piece of chess pie, thank you very much."
