Lake Malone to Celebrate 100 Years of KY State Parks With Hot Air Balloon Rides
When I was a kid, we had several swimming spots that were "in rotation," so to speak. One Saturday, we'd pick Windy Hollow Lake; the next Miller Lake. Then it would be Fish & Game. And, of course, we were not averse to leaving Daviess County altogether.
Lake Malone was always a fun location for a day of picnicking and swimming. It still is in 2024, but it's grown since I was a little one (if I ever was). And it continues to do so. The Big Twigs were an inspired addition and always make for a fun day at the park.
Too bad our twig friends can't look up, otherwise they'd be able to enjoy the big celebration of Kentucky State Parks' 100th Anniversary at Lake Malone State Park. It will feature hot air balloon rides. I can't think of a more beautiful area to see from the air than Lake Malone.
The party begins Saturday, June 29th at 4 PM with guided hikes, a bounce house, a dunking booth, free books and toys provided by SOAR, and a book signing. Then it will be birthday treats and tethered hot air balloon rides over the lake beginning at 6 PM.
An extraordinary balloon glow will cap off the evening at 8 PM.
If you're planning to attend, bring lawn chairs, bug spray, and sunscreen with you, and if you're concerned about food, don't be. There will be plenty of food trucks on hand.
There will be multiple centennial celebrations across the Commonwealth to celebrate Kentucky State Parks' 100th anniversary. Maybe you can make more than one, but you certainly don't want to miss this one.
