IL Is Home to the Largest Superman Memorabilia Collection on the (Daily?) Planet

Look...at the end of this street...it's a bird, it's a plane. No, it's Superman...I mean, as long as that street is Market Street in Metropolis, Illinois. Seriously, where ELSE would you curate the largest collection of Supes memorabilia in the world? Certainly not North Platte, Nebraska.

And when you get to Market Street in Metropolis, you probably won't have to look toward the end of the street; most visitors arrive very near where the largest Superman statue on the planet has been standing since 1993.

Clark Kent's alter-ego sort of "oversees" the goings-on in this part of the world--a part of the world dedicated to the celebration of Jerry Siegel's and Joe Shuster's 1933 creation who came into our lives in the first issue of Action Comics in 1938. Good luck finding one, though. There may only be about 100 copies in existence, and one of them recently sold for $6 million. While you may not find one of those copies at The Super Museum in Metropolis, you'll likely find a replica, not to mention many other Superman comic books.

If you're a Superman fan, Metropolis IL must find its way onto your bucket list.

Purists will spend hours soaking in all the super nostalgia before likely making their to ANOTHER part of Market Street where a bronze Lois Lane presents a golden photo opportunity.

So what is the most popular attraction at the Super Museum? Well, according to its founder, Jim Hambrick, that would be the George Reeves costume. Reeves portrayed our beloved hero in the 1950s TV series The Adventures of Superman.

Lunch boxes, action figures, toys, games, posters...it's all there for the ogling. And don't forget to bring money for "supernirs"--their word, not mine. (And I like it.)

Your own "super" adventure awaits you right there on the Ohio River and right across from Paducah KY. But enjoy the drive; there's no need to get there "faster than a speeding bullet."
