My First PorchFest OBKY Experience [PHOTOS]

I was visiting family in Michigan last year, so this year, no matter rain, clouds or humidity, I was not going to miss PorchFest OBKY 2019. I'm glad I didn't because it was a BLAST.

Leading up to PorchFest, the weather was hard to predict. All week, the forecast was calling for a weekend washout. So, on Saturday morning all eyes were on the skies and watching the Kentucky Doppler radar map. It didn't look promising. But, then the rain stopped, a bit of sun peaked out and it was game on! We headed to Griffith Avenue around 5:30 and had a complete blast!

Of course, the first thing on the agenda was the Food Trucks. We were looking forward to that all day. It was great to see EVERY single food truck with a line of customers. They made a big food and supplies investment, in anticipation of the crowd, so it was nice to see so many eating a snack or dinner. Oh, and our food from the Curbside Kitchenette was fantastic. It was nice to eat a bite while stopping at various porches to listen to some terrific music.

Then it was off to meet up with some friends that had just arrived. PorchFest is all about community, and it was a beautiful thing to see thousands of our neighbors and friends enjoying life together. It was great to catch up with friends we hadn't seen in a while. It was just plain great to fellowship while listening to great music up and down the street.

Next stop, was Porch F to see my stepson (Josh is on vocals and keyboard) and his band, Friends. It was pretty awesome to see so many on the lawn, and on the street in front of house, enjoying Josh and the band. If you love classic rock, then you stopped and listened to Friends along the way! This is also where I ran into Angel, Jaclyn and many other amazing friends.

Then, we stopped by a friends house that lives on Griffith Avenue. We may have needed a "cold beverage". Truly, whether you had music on your porch or not, it was a party atmosphere for the entire neighborhood. The feeling in the air was electric.

It was time for the biggest porch of the night! Off to see Andy Brasher play and wrap up the night. Andy is one of the most talented musicians around and he didn't disappoint. I know Andy well enough to know, that he would also want me to mention, that he surrounds himself with the best musicians. The entire band rocked the porch. I have a plea to the recording labels in Nashville. Listen to some of Andy's original music. How he hasn't been discovered yet is beyond me. His songs are written with passion and are brilliant. "By God" and "Real Friends" are meant for country radio. Just my two cents!

Andy Brasher and Tamarra N Miller worked tirelessly to bring us PorchFest. All of those long hours put into planning and those sleepless nights. Every time I saw them Saturday night, although they looked tired, they also looked proud and had huge smiles on their faces. As well they should have. You've brought a new family-friendly event to the community, that we'll enjoy for years to come. I for one am grateful. I sent Tamarra a text yesterday to say thank you, and may have mentioned that we can't wait for next year. I asked if it was "too soon" for consideration to do a PorchFest 2.0 in the fall? Maybe I'll ask again in a couple of months. Probably "too soon". Get some rest you two. YOU deserve it!
