Technology has not only improved our lives, but it's also sped them up, to a certain extent. With convenience comes expediency, and what our various devices can help us accomplish today gives us more time to do the things we love. On the other hand, the workaholics of the world can now add more to their plates.

Text Scams

Technology has also made it easier for the nefarious among us to ruin our lives. Interestingly, one of our simplest forms of technology seems to be the preferred method for these people.

I've lost count of how many texts I've received about ditching jury duty or UPS packages that came to my address by mistake.  I've also been plagued multiple times within the last few weeks with a phony DMV text that looks exactly like the one shown here.

And then there's the bogus Spectrum message about claiming a 50% discount on a monthly bill. That, to me, is even more diabolical.

Kentucky Launches Website Targeting Scams

Whether, these phony messages are promises of good things to come or threats of incarceration, the Commonwealth of Kentucky is taking aim at all of them by way of a new website Governor Andy Beshear spoke of Friday morning.

Stopscams.ky.gov not only gives residents the opportunity to report scams, but it also provides solid tips on how to avoid them in the first place and how to recover from them should you fall victim.

The site tackles all scams, not just those that come via text. E-mail and social media scams are also rampant.

Kentuckians were fleeced to the tune of more than $70 million dollars in 2024. Stopscams.ky.gov is here to put an end to it.
