Owensboro, Daviess County, the entire tri-state, and, likely, all of western Kentucky and southern Indiana are getting excited for the 2023 Owensboro Air Show, scheduled for September 15th through the 17th.

The Owensboro Air Show and Bridge Walk

The excitement begins on the 15th at the Owensboro Regional Airport, and then all the action moves to the Ohio River on the 16th and 17th, 1 PM to 4 PM both days. This the first air show since 2021.

But while anticipation is at a fever pitch for all the mind-blowing aircraft we're going to see, what's up in the air isn't the only thing folks are looking forward to. In conjunction with the Owensboro Air Show, as in years past, the the Owensboro Blue Bridge--the Glover Cary Bridge--will be closed on Saturday, September 16th, allowing foot traffic for the entire length of the bridge. But don't sleep late that day; the Bridge Walk will begin at 8 AM but will end at 12:30 PM to make way for the Owensboro Air Show.

I'm really excited because I haven't done the Bridge Walk since 2019. Of course, the opportunities haven't been there every year, so I'm not alone. Among other things, the Bridge Walk allows me to get a picture of downtown Owensboro that I otherwise wouldn't be able to get. I've decided to make that a tradition.

Closures for the Owensboro Air Show and Bridge Walk

The Owensboro Air Show and Bridge Walk will necessitate closures, and the City of Owensboro has released those times. This is when the Blue Bridge will be closed:

Friday, September 15:           9:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Saturday, September 16:      7:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Sunday, September 17:      12:30 PM – 4:30 PM

The English Park boat ramp and portions of the Ohio River will also need to be closed. Here are those times:

Friday, September 15:           9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Saturday, September 16:    12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Sunday, September 17:      12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

As always, Owensboro Air Show weekend promises to be an exciting one. And, by all means, don't miss out on the rare opportunity to walk the Glover Cary Bridge. I'll see you on the other side.
