Owensboro Back To School Shop With A Cop A Complete Success
Owensboro is so very blessed with the most amazing law enforcement around. Last night the Back To School Shop with a Cop took place and to say it was incredible would be an understatement!
The event took place at the new Shoe Stop location in Wesleyan Park Plaza.
Over 70 kids were able to participate in the annual event this year. Kids were given an allowance of $60 to spend on shoes for school. Some kiddos shopped smart and even came away with more than one pair.
Angel here! As a former, Youth Service Center Coordinator, with the school system I can tell you first hand that a child having brand new shoes can change the course of the school year.
I spoke with Jailer Art Maglinger, he told me many children experience parents dealing with Law Enforcement in a negative way and they want to focus on a changing this to a positive interaction for the whole family. Programs like these help to bridge the gap.
Children are referred to the Back To School Shop with a Cop program through local shelters and the family resource centers in the schools.
The Daviess County Detention Center and the Owensboro Police Department want to send a huge THANK YOU to all who helped to make this happen. Especially Shoe Stop that graciously opened their store for the event.
I am so honored to live in such a supportive and caring community. As a kid who grew up with little this blesses me so deeply. Daviess County Detention Center, Owensboro Police Department, local businesses, and whoever else helped thank you for helping make special memories for these precious kids.
Thank you for being the example this world needs. WE LOVE YOU ALL~
