Owensboro Blue Bridge Construction Closing Delayed
About a month ago, the Kentucky Transportation Department announced it would be closing the Owensboro Blue Bridge to work on a much-needed construction project. While none of us is happy about the inconvenience, I'm sure we all understand the necessity.

I'm glad they waited until after the 4th of July to begin this makeover since so many people cross over from Kentucky to Indiana and vice versa to buy fireworks, visit the Holiday Drive-In, and attend summer events. The folks I REALLY feel for are the ones to travel the bridge daily for work or school.
I'm Already Annoyed
A friend of mine is going to end up with an additional hour of travel time each day during the week until the project is projected to be completed sometime in November. She told me, " I know these repairs are much needed, but I'm already annoyed. I guess I'll just find a new podcast to listen to."
What is Being Repaired on the Owensboro Blue Bridge?
According to the Daviess County Fiscal Court website, here is what will be repaired:
"During construction, crews will replace one 750-ft long span of concrete-filled bridge decking while making repairs to a second span of the same length.
As the decking spans the entire width of the bridge surface, closing one lane at a time is impossible, requiring a full bridge closure.
The full closure will allow for long-term concrete maintenance to be completed. Work is also planned on the Indiana approach to the bridge."
