Owensboro Catholic Middle School Football Team Wraps Up Incredible Season at State Championship This Weekend
It blows my mind to think about all of the talented athletes here in Owensboro. I don't know if there is something in the water that makes kids genetically predisposed to being beasts on the football field, but I do know it also takes a lot of hard work and dedication to grow as players and win ball games.
That's why we have to show some love to the fellas on the 8th grade Owensboro Catholic Middle School football team. They have been dominating their division this past season, but it really started the year before. Lauren Coots, proud mama of one of the players told me that last year as 7th graders, the team went undefeated and were conference champs! "Many of the boys play 3 sports together," Lauren told me.
So they have been fostering their friendships on and off the field for quite a while now. Lauren said "Hard work and chemistry are their greatest asset!" Encouraging each other to push through when games get tough or one of them is having a bad day. They even managed to win the 7v7 State Cup this past summer on one of those awful sweltering hot days. Lord, I would struggle cheering from the stands in 95 degree weather, but these guys kicked butt and took home the trophy.
By the way, they have a lot of those! Trophies, that is. They also won the 7v7 Under the Lights Flag Under Armour League this past summer at KWC Steele Stadium.
They are Conference Champs and Regional Champs, but what is especially impressive is that this team has gone the entire season undefeated. That is a huge testament to the grit and skill honed by their outstanding coaching staff. The team is led by Hank Harvey, Kyle Gorman, John David Rudy, Drew Harvey, and Chad Mongold.
This coming Saturday, November 11th, in Lexington, KY the players will suit up to challenge the Christian Academy of Louisville in the 8th Grade Division 3 State Championship. Owensboro Catholic Middle School is hosting a pep rally to cheer them on to victory! It is tomorrow at 2 PM if you want to go show your support. Wear your green and white!
