I guess the next best thing to actually being on a game show is to know someone who's going to be on a game show. I recognize Michael Bristow, and I'm sure I've met him, and now I can say, "Hey, someone I know is going to be on a game show." Well, someone and four members of his family.

Owensboro Family on Family Feud

I'm a game show lover from way back, and Family Feud ("The Feud") is one of my favorites. For me, it has survived all the hosts because the game format is unique and universally appealing. And its current emcee, Steve Harvey, is the show's longest-tenured host to date; he began his run in 2010.

Harvey, a brutally funny standup comic, brings that edge to his hosting duties, and the Bristows were fortunate enough to share a little "behind-the-scenes" intel with Owensboro Times surrounding their appearance on the show this Wednesday, April 15th.

While the show only lasts a half-hour, including commercials, it takes about 90 minutes to do an episode. Some of that can be attributed to Harvey's inner comedian, which will take over at a moment's notice leading to a riff or two (or three) about something that just happened during the taping. When you're watching, you can tell when something like that has happened.

Owensboro Residents on Game Shows

Michael Bristow and his family aren't the only Owensboroans who've made their way to a game show stage. In 2023, a Kentucky Wesleyan College student appeared on The Price Is Right and gave the city a shout-out. In 2024, Owensboro native Allie Dees won $15,000 on Amazon Prime Video's Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, and in 2020, Mark Gaddis cashed in big on The Weakest Link...to the tune of $59,000.

There's also Jodi Scott, who appeared on Ellen's Game of Games in 2019; Molly Sperling on the Rob Lowe-hosted The Floor in 2025; and, most recently, Steve Bridgmon, who we saw earlier this year on The Price Is Right.

And we can't forget our friend Teresa Cook and her lucrative ($74,000) 2009 appearance on Deal or No Deal.

Bristow will be joined by his mom, Susan Simmons; his siblings, Kaylyn and Matt; and Kristen Millay when they appear on Family Feud this Wednesday, April 15th, on the CW. Check local listings for time.
