Owensboro Musician Releasing Emotional New Music Video

Owensboro musician Josh Merritt has been a local favorite for years now, but at the end of 2023 with the release of the first single from his upcoming album, 206, he has seen more support than ever before. Rather than just putting out the song, he collaborated with local actors Emma Thompson and Colt Walker, and videographer, Taylor Graves to tell the story of "Give it to Me" in a thrilling and creative way. The portrayal of this intense relationship had me "clutching my pearls" in certain moments.

About a week ago, Josh shared a new song he thinks everyone can relate to. "Though ‘Easier Alone’ was written about the healing side of a break-up, and coming to closure, the song at its core is about another part of the grieving process. Acceptance," he told me. The music video stars Josh's 82-year-old Great Aunt, Wilma Faye Harris. He explained how special this casting is to him, "She played a big part in my raising. She was more of a grandmother to me growing up, and her home is what I’ve always called my home place in Reynolds Station, KY." The video follows a day in the life of Wilma by herself. Her morning routine. And a routine she takes to on days she can. Driving back to her empty home to remember what once was. "She absolutely knocked it out of the part on this video and we are so proud of her. She is a superstar."

Josh went on to share some of the emotional storyline of the video, "Wilma Harris lost her husband of over 50 years in 2019. Though she tried to live in their small lifelong home by herself after he passed, her age proved to be an issue, and she had to make the hard choice to move in with family just over a year after. The home and property now sit empty and abandoned, and the small mobile home has since become uninhabitable so to its age."
