Today was a beautiful day in Owensboro and the perfect day for a groundbreaking ceremony featuring city officials, local businesses, along with education and nonprofit leaders.
The Owensboro Regional Farmers' Market Pavilion will be located at East Parrish Ave & Triplett St and will continue to provide fresh fruits & vegetables and also offer dairy products, meats, baked goods, flowers, plants and more!
Many community leaders and businesses raised money to make all of this possible. It was a dream seventeen years ago and soon it will become a reality.
Construction is set to begin this Thursday or Friday, weather permitting, and it should be completed in six weeks if all goes as planned. The Market will open for the season on Saturday, April 7th and we couldn't be any more excited!
Judge/Executive, Al Mattingly was on hand and said, “some people in our community don’t have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, so we’re excited to see the project move forward.”
Owensboro City Commissioner, Bob Glenn added, "Farms are the lifeblood of communities." Glenn and his family shop at the Farmers' Market and he went on to add, "When farms prosper it's good for our community growth."
Owensboro Grain was a big part of the new Market Pavilion coming to life. A rep was on hand and said, "Supporting farmers is important to Owensboro Grain. Their success is our success."
ORFM President, Glenn Shourds welcomed the large crowd and opened the ceremony with prayer.
ORFM VP, Bruce Kunze spoke at the ceremony and talked about how special it is for farmers to connect with consumers at the Farmers' Market.
It took some time, but the goal was finally reached to make the new Owensboro Regional Farmers' Market Pavilion a reality! We live in such a giving community.
This is so exciting!
We'll see y'all at the market!
