Salsa Fest Competition: Daviess County Cooperative Extension Service Spices Things Up!
Hands down, my Dad made the best salsa I have ever eaten. Super chunky, tangy, and perfectly fresh. He was fiercely loyal to the goodness of a Riney Farms tomato! I have a few friends, however, who come in at a close second and third. Tara Smith, I am looking at you with that famous fruit salsa. Shew wee it is heavenly!
If you think you have a show-stopping salsa recipe, you will have the chance to prove it this coming Saturday, July 8th. The Daviess County Cooperative Extension Service is hosting a Salsa Fest Salsa Competition at the Owensboro Regional Farmer's Market.
To enter the competition, all you have to do is follow these few rules:
1. Salsa must be homemade.
2. May be fresh or canned (properly please!)
3. Must come in a sealed container

All are welcome to join in the fun. This would be a great way to spotlight your favorite farm's produce. entries must be dropped off at the Daviess County Cooperative Extension Service office located at 4800A New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303 by noon on Thursday, July 6th.
Judging will begin Saturday morning at 9:30 at the Farmer's Market on the corner of Parrish Ave and Triplett Street. While you wait, there will be two different salsas available to sample and you will get to be the judge of which is best.
The winner of the contest will be chosen by a panel of local judges and there will be a prize for Best Overall Salsa. Just to be able to have bragging rights as Daviess County's Best Salsa would be enough for me.
So sharpen those knives, wash your produce, and get your jars ready! If you have any questions, give the fine folks at the Daviess County Cooperative Extension Service a call at 270-685-8480. Or you can visit their Facebook page.
