The USA National Youth Hockey Tournament is being held April 29th through May 3rd in McKinney, Texas.  And a team from right here in Owensboro will be taking the ice.  The Owensboro PuckHogs 14U Youth Hockey Team, who last week claimed the Kentucky State Championship, is headed to Texas to take aim at a national title.

Carrie Thompson, who's the Team Manager for the PuckHogs, says the team has been on the road and on the ice all season long- playing teams from Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Michigan, Alabama, South Carolina and Illinois.  They amassed a record of 21-19-7-1.  That record includes a tremendous run to the Kentucky State Championship.  On Friday, March 12th, the PuckHogs took out the Louisville Ice Cardinals 2-1 in a "hard fought game that ended in a shoot out."

Also, here at WBKR, we want to give a shout out to another local team.  The Owensboro Rampage, made up of area high school players, is also bound for Nationals.  Earlier this month, they won the Kentucky State High School Championship by beating the Northern Kentucky Norse 4-1.  Now, they're headed to the National Tournament April 15-19 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Good luck to both teams- the Rampage and the PuckHogs!
