Owensboro’s Cork & Cuisine to Serve Up Olympic-Themed Menu
If I were charged with the task of creating a dining experience based on the Olympics, I would probably, at first, get the wrong idea and come up with parodies.
For example, off the top of my head, I could take "Miracle on Ice"--the reference to the 1980 U.S. hockey team--and serve "spear pickles on ice." It would be an appetizer.
Honestly, I could do this all day...AAAAAND that's why I don't get these jobs. Who wants to go to an exciting culinary event and eat pickles?
I venture to guess that on July 29th, there will be nary a pickle in sight as Spectra and the Owensboro Convention Center host Cork & Cuisine: a Taste of the Olympics. The event will begin at 6 PM.
There will be no parody menus of any kind. This will be exactly as you might imagine--delicacies from around the world. It sounds absolutely amazing.
Guests will experience a five-course meal featuring expert pairings of food, wine, and spirits. In a Convention Center press release, Sous Chef Michelle Pessia said that--and I freaking LOVE this--a majority of the dishes served cannot be found in the tri-state area.
This seriously speaks to me because when I travel, I go out of my way to dine at restaurants to which I have no access here. But Cork & Cuisine: a Taste of the Olympics will elevate THAT philosophy.
Appetizers from Africa, a soup course from Asia, a European salad, a main course from the Americas (which will include, among other extraordinary things, something called maple bacon carrots--can I just dive into a vat of that?), and desserts from Oceania (Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific islands).
