Owensboro’s Roger Hayden Auctioning Boots To Benefit Injured 12 Year-Old
Professional motorcycle racer Roger Hayden, Owensboro native, is auctioning off a pair of his race boots for a 12 year-old boy recently injured in a race. Gage Beland of Lake Odessa, Michigan was in a bad crash on March 10th while racing the Volusia, Florida flat track, the same track the Pros raced on the day before. Gage was airlifted to an Orlando hospital with extensive injuries: broken pelvis, broken arm, broken ribs, fractured skull, collapsed lung and internal bleeding. He was recently transferred to a hospital in Michigan to be closer to home, but is still faces a long road to recovery. Every penny raised will go to Gage's family to help offset their extensive medical bills.
The boots being auctioned were worn by Roger while riding for Michael Jordan Motorsports at the FIM Superbike World Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA in September 2013. Hayden crashed while wearing these boots in Race One, then wore them as he rode to an impressive 8th place finish in Race Two. Each boot is autographed by Hayden.
