While Fido isn't permitted to make the descent into the caves, as long as the pooch is kept on a leash, you can take them on all surfaced hiking trails throughout the national park. Here are a few tips to make your visit with your pet more enjoyable:

  • Don't leave your fur friends in your vehicle, especially during extremes in temperatures in the heat of the summer and in the cold of winter, and never leave your pet unattended.
  • When planning to hit the trails, make sure you bring plenty of snacks and water not only for you but for your pet as well.
  • Keep in mind that some trails in Mammoth Cave are accessible by horseback to make space for riders Also take into consideration local wildlife such as snakes and deer.
