Pumpkin Spice Mac and Cheese? Okay, This Has Gotta Stop
Oh, you all. Do not get me wrong (and if you know anything about me, you won't). I absolutely love the fall. I have been a different person since the autumnal equinox on September 22nd. It's true. I'm calling myself Carl, now.
Just kidding. But it looks like we have ourselves a situation on our hands, and it stems from the fact that there are a LOT of people who love this time of year just as much as I do.
Late in the summer, when we all start looking forward to cooler temperatures and much less green in the trees, there's a certain flavor that rears its head, seemingly as THE spokesperson for the season.
Yes, I'm looking at you, pumpkin spice.
I get it. Pumpkins. Is there anything that screams FALL more than the sight of a pumpkin. We carve them. We use them as decoration. We eat their pies.
I have no problem with the vegetable itself, but the whole pumpkin spice thing, for me, is WAY out of hand.
I don't hate it. I just think it's boring and that there are many other flavors that represent fall, in my opinion, even better. Cranberry, maple, and gingerbread LEAP to mind. Apples, of course.
Okay, so we have the spice. Fine. But does it have to be in EVERYTHING? Pumpkin Spice Twinkies are a thing. There are pumpkin spice lattes, Pumpkin Spice Oreos, even Pumpkin Spice Spam. Good Lord.
And as if that last one wasn't bad enough, here comes Kraft Pumpkin Spice Macaroni and Cheese.
It literally made my stomach turn just a wee bit, just now, when I typed that. You know why? Because that is flat out GROSS!
Now, to be fair, I'm pretty picky about cheese to begin with. For me, it CANNOT touch any condiments (it's why I don't like cheeseburgers), and it CANNOT be mixed with anything sweet (and, no, cheesecake and cheese Danish don't count).
But this is beyond the pale.
Have I tried it? No, it's still in Canada, where there is, legit, a WAITING LIST of people dying to get their hands on a box. What in the world is happening?
Here in the states, the good folks at Kraft (who really do mean well, I know) are setting up a contest on their Twitter page, giving eager fans the opportunity to win a box of the limited edition concoction.
Sigh. I give up. I mean, I might as well. I can hear you right now. "He's crazy. I love pumpkin spice. Give me all the pumpkin spice mac and cheese you got."
I need to resign myself to the fact that it's a pumpkin spice world and I should be thankful to get to live in it.
