I will admit it. Sometimes I am a sucker for a Facebook-fed ad. A couple of days ago, a rather unsettling sponsored ad popped up in my news feed. It was a targeted advertisement for ScareMail- the "terrifying snail mail experience." Honestly, I don't really get mail these days. Virtually every single monthly bill I get is delivered to me electronically. I think I still get my monthly utility bill in the mail, maybe?? However, besides that and an occasional delivery of coupons from a barrage of fast food restaurants, that's about the extent of what I receive in the actual mail from the United States Postal Service.

But THIS sounds awesome!

Horror author David Viergtuz- the self-proclaimed "Master of Malice"- has created a really cool and immersive way for horror fans to experience terror at home. Billed as "a new way of storytelling," ScareMail literally and figuratively delivers a psychological thriller to your mailbox.

According to Viergutz's official website, here's the basic story that sets the stage for the correspondence you'll receive:

Michael (a museum curator), a curious and somewhat isolated individual, stumbled upon the mysterious website "Scare.Me" on an old, forgotten online forum. His interaction with the site has set off a series of psychological and supernatural events, tearing his life and mind apart. Now he feels compelled to share his experiences as a warning to the world.

If you subscribe to the service, the mystery will unfold before you. On the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month (for a full year), you'll be sent a letter.

Those letters could possibly include "unsettling photographs, ominous newspaper clippings, and cryptic symbols." Viergutz promises to "immerse you in a sinister world."

As David instructs, "When you get your letters - do not think that that's it. If there is a link mentioned you best bet I put it in there for a reason, search it. If there is a number, call it. If there is a place mentioned, run a quick search."

I love a good horror film. And, honestly, I am not a fan of gore at all. I love a good psychological and procedural thriller- like The Silence of the Lambs or Zodiac or Se7en. I love having my mind and nerves challenged.

I am really intrigued by the thought of having a mystery delivered to my doorstep, so I checked out ScareMail to see how much it costs. The whole year, as of press time, is priced at $107. For me, I am approaching this like each letter is a movie or TV episode.  That's less than $9 each.

And, no! This is not an endorsement of any kind. I rarely look at Facebook ads that are fed to me because they usually grate my last nerve. But ScareMail got me and I couldn't wait to chat with The Master of Malice about his creation.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
