Sometimes in life you just meet that person. A person that you feel an instant kinship with. Steve Bridgmon is that person for me. It's not just that when he sings you get chill bumps, but it's his heart. He pours his heart into the people that he loves. Into his music and passions. And, for his baby sister. A sister that needs him now, more than ever.

Shannon doesn't know me. But, I would love to know her. I actually already feel like I do. I've been keeping up with her on-line journal on posthope.org. Here's some of the words that I've read, that best describes Shannon. Hilarious, feisty, tough, smart, spunky, persistent, brave, hero, strong, determined, badass, courageous, amazing and warrior. I think that we all need a Shannon in our lives.

Shannon, was diagnosed with a brain mass on February 12th, 2016 and it's been a hard, rough road since that unimaginable day. At that time, her prognosis was just nine months to live. But, with the help of faith, doctors, specialists, family, friends, courage and tenacity, she kept the tumor at bay. That was until recently. In October, new spots were found. "This new situation is really NOT GOOD. But that does not mean that my village and I can't get through it," Shannon said in her journal.

Shannon has medically paved the way for so many who could get diagnosed with GBC in the future. She participated in a new immunotherapy clinical trial, is a trailblazer in metabolic therapy and so much more. Steve said, "God has made her an example and a leader .. literally uncharted territory with her cancer."

I asked Steve how he's coping, knowing that his baby sister is so sick. "Faith is the backbone of what I do and I’ve leaned on it for everything .. and faith has kept me from falling apart," he shared. "I'm just so proud of her and although she’s younger than me, she's my role model for perseverance."

"I am still feeling like I am in limbo about what comes next. It is hard to sit and wait and wonder if I have just forgotten, or if I need to be preparing for treatment. For now, I will try to focus on staying the course on diet and looking for research, while slowing my decline as much as possible. I am not going gently into that good night (Dylan Thomas)," Shannon stated in her latest journal post. "I really appreciate everyone on the side lines and the frontlines who have always supported me. Much love to all of you!"
