If You Know a Family in Need, WBKR is Now Accepting Christmas Wish Letters for 2021
2021 marks a huge milestone for WBKR's Christmas Wish program. We turn 45-years-old this year and continue to take immense pride in our program's history of making sure that every child in the tristate gets a visit from Santa on Christmas.
DEADLINE: Sunday, December 12th, 2021 at 11:59 PM
Last year, Christmas Wish had its busiest season ever. We anticipated, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, subsequent shutdowns and layoffs, rising unemployment rates in our area, and expected financial impacts of the virus, that 2020 was going to be our busiest year ever. It was. Without a doubt.
However, with the help of our community, a devoted legion of volunteers and the heart of Barb Birgy (who serves as Christmas Wish's Executive Director), we were able to provide Christmas for 7,404 children in the WBKR listening area. Not only did they receive presents under the tree, their families were also granted Christmas dinners. All in all, Christmas Wish was able to help Santa Claus with over 30,000 gifts.
Because we are still in the process of rebounding from the impacts of COVID-19 and its effects on our economy and local families, we're anticipating another incredibly challenging year. To get ahead of the game, we're beginning the process of accepting Christmas Wish letters now.
Yes! 'Tis the season for Christmas Wish and it's now officially time to start submitting your Christmas Wish letters. If you know a family in need this holiday season, please let us know how Christmas Wish can assist them. As you know, our focus is children and helping them in any way we can.
You can write a Christmas Wish letter and mail it to . . .
Christmas Wish
3301 Frederica Street
Owensboro, KY 42301
Or you can fill out the form below and submit your letter electronically. Either way, it's vitally important that you provide us as much information about the family as possible- why they need the assistance of the Christmas Wish program, the names of their children, their ages, the schools they attend, what they're asking Santa for this Christmas and what they truly need.
And, some additional exciting news. The WBKR Christmas Wish office will have a brand new home this year. We will be located in the former Shoe Stop/Halloween Havoc location at Towne Square North here in Owensboro. Stay tuned to WBKR, WBKR.com and the WBKR app for additional details on when the office will be open and how you can help Christmas Wish make Christmas "merry and bright" for kids around the tristate.
