Every once in a while, even in this economic climate, it's nice to treat yourself to something special and make yourself feel good by splurging. For me, when I decide to cut loose, I want to eat at a really nice restaurant.

Now I'm not talking about something like a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, where the least expensive steak entree is $52, and the least expensive non-steak entree is $40. By the way, that last item is a stuffed chicken breast; it's probably tasty, but I'm not dropping 40 singles on a chicken breast.

I'm a cheapskate; my "splurge" cut-off is somewhere in the 30s. But, if money were no object, I'd pause that philosophy and pay a visit to the most expensive restaurant in Kentucky, also a steakhouse.

The Most Expensive Restaurant in Kentucky

Louisville is a great foodie city, so it's not surprising that it's where you'll find the most expensive restaurant in the Commonwealth. (Well, one of them, anyway, and I'll explain that later.) If you plan to splurge in the truest sense of the word, then it's Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse for you. Lovefood.com is a handy tool if your splurge game takes you outside Kentucky, because the website lists the most expensive restaurant in each state.

Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse in Lexington

Not to be outdone, Lexington is also home to a Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse, where a six-ounce Wagyu filet mignon will run you $178. Think about it. If that is all you ordered (no sides, drink, or dessert) you're looking at a tab that's comfortably north of $200 after figuring in state tax and the tip.

I have no doubt that everything on that menu is magnificent, and if it's splurging you want, you'll hit the jackpot here.
