Who Else is Excited For the Return of The Muppet Show?
We all had those childhood obsessions that never went away, right? Maybe it was a comic book character, a sci-fi franchise, or an action figure/doll. One of mine is The Muppets. In any form. Whether it's one of their movies, The Muppet Babies cartoon, or even the slightly odd "30 Rock" style show they tried not too long ago.
My FAVORITE, though, is The Muppet Show itself, from the original to the revival on the Disney Channel called Muppets Tonight. Friends of mine are always sending me memes and fun merch. If it is Jim Henson-related, I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.
I collect nostalgic memorabilia, I watch old episodes all the time, and I even decorated my child's baby nursery with Muppet artwork, a Kermit quilt, and replica puppets. Our Christmas tree doesn't get the traditional angel on top, but it does feature a retro star being held in place by Animal.
That show not only sends me right back to the perfect parts of growing up, its live performances, dances, skits, and even Fozzie's jokes hit just as good now as they did back then. Some of it is even better watching it with "older eyes." Pure comedy GOLD. Each of the characters taught us life lessons on how to be, or, well... not to be...
For instance, I would put Miss Piggy on the list of Top 5 influential figures of my life. She taught me the importance of loyalty, confidence, and not letting anyone mess with me. I also learned how NOT to treat the man I love. Nobody's perfect, but poor Kermy!
Although I still enjoy watching older episodes of The Muppet Show, it's exciting to see new things from the franchise. The reboot of Muppet Babies, Muppets Mayhem, and Muppet shorts on Disney+ have made it fun to make my son a huge fan as well. His favorite is the Swedish Chef!
On February 4th, we will get to see all of the hilarious characters we know and love back where they belong as they take the stage and our screens once again live from Muppet Theatre. With special guest stars Sabrina Carpenter and Maya Rudolph, it will be streaming on Disney+. Here's the adorable trailer:
Lots of fans believe that this one-time special event could also be a sneaky pilot episode for a whole new revival of the show. With Seth Rogan as one of the executive producers and the return of some veteran puppeteers like Dave Geolz who originated the characters Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, among many others.
I know I can't be the only one wishing it to be true! I'd love to see current stars perform live and interact with comedy legends as they navigate the chaos of backstage and hecklers from the box seats. We'll have to cross our fingers! Anybody else pumped from the return of one of the best shows of all time?!
