Black Friday starting early, you know, on Thanksgiving Day when it's, you know, NOT Friday is a relatively recent phenomenon that has been facing a little backlash.

It seems that no sooner did folks start heading to their favorite shopping destination the second they finished that last bite of pecan pie than OTHER folks (and maybe some of those SAME ONES) were lamenting the need to get a jump on the crowds by fighting them on a holiday.

With that in mind, know that there are quite a few stores who are in agreement and will NOT be open on Thanksgiving Day.

So if you had thoughts of bypassing a late Turkey Day food coma in favor of hitting one of these stores, you'll have to, ahem, take your business elsewhere that day.

Among the long list of businesses that will not be open on Thanksgiving are the following national chains that you might find on a shopping spree in Owensboro or the tri-state area:

Academy Sports + Outdoors, AT&T, Barnes & Noble, Dillard's, Hobby Lobby, Home Depot, JOANN Stores, Lowe's, Marshalls, Mattress Firm, Office Depot/Office Max, Pep Boys, PetSmart, Pier 1, Sam's Club, Staples, Stein Mart, TJ Maxx, and Tractor Supply Co.

Happy Thanksgiving! And Black Friday!
