
This Christmas Classic Was Just Named the Official Holiday Song of TN
This morning on the show, we are talking about favorite holiday songs. I am not at all surprised to see one particular tune shared over and over again. It's one that I never skip and often sing along to in the car. When I think of it, my mind immediately goes to the movie Home Alone. When Kevin is throwing a "party" with his "friends" to trick the Wet Bandits. "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee.

- Brenda recorded Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree in Nashville in 1958. She was only thirteen years old at the time.
- The staple on every Christmas party playlist was written by Johnny Marks. The same songwriter responsible for “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” and “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.”
- In 2019, "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
- The song has reached certified platinum status five times. That means it has sold over five million copies.
- Last year, in 2023, "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" topped the Billboard Top 100 chart for the first time ever. This meant Brenda Lee made history as the oldest artist to ever top the Billboard Top 100 chart.
- Now at age 79, she is enjoying the lasting love people all over the world have for this song.
On Monday, December 2nd, Brenda Lee was presented with a proclamation at the Tennessee State Capital making her beloved classic hit the official holiday song of the Volunteer State. In response to this honor, she shared, “I never thought that a Christmas song would be my legacy, but it’s turned out that way, and I take it. I thank everybody for staying with me all these years and supporting my career.”
