Three Reasons Why You’ll Love The Lunch Lady Life in Kentucky [PHOTOS]
The Principal may be in charge of education but the lunchroom staff keeps the place going. They are literally the heartbeat of every single school.
YOU GET TO TAKE CARE OF OTHERS
Think about it, lunch ladies are solely responsible for feeding and nurturing every single person who walks through the school doors every day. From students to teachers to visitors and other staff they have a very big job to do. They always do it with a smile on their face and if you're one of those super blessed schools your lunch ladies SING! And Kentucky lunch ladies have that southern twang.
I remember working at Burns Middle School and those girls should have taken their act on the road. Barbara McDaniel was the head of it all and she knew how to run a crew. They will forever be one of my favorite groups of ladies.
MAKING NEW FRIENDS & COOKING UP A MESS A SOMETHING EVERY DAY
I moved around a lot! The lunch ladies always seemed to be the friendly faces in the schools I attended. I remember most is they always acknowledged me even if no one else did. They smiled and made me feel like they were my friend. These women took notice of me being the new kid and helped me feel welcomed. To this day I am still friends with some of those women almost 25 years after graduating.
Suki Kinison was my all-time favorite lunch lady. She was more than that. She truly made me look forward to coming to school every day. She always and I mean always had a smile on her face and it was the warmest smile ever. It made you feel special like she was looking forward to the exact moment she saw you. She and all the lunch ladies from Apollo High School got me presents when I graduated and they definitely took care of me in the food department. Southern women can cook up a mess of something like no other. There is just something about their cooking. They could follow the same recipe as someone not in the south and I can promise you it has a better taste. I think it's that special ingredient of love.
I'll just go ahead and say it she was a saint.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
When I sit and think of the kindness shown to me by these women in all the schools I attended I can only imagine the snowball effect they have on many other students. They keep you in check, tell you about yourself, love on you, take care of you, and a lot of the time probably know more about you than you realize because they observe and know EVERYTHING.
Next time you have an opportunity thank a lunch lady. They are amazing.
