UK Finishes Undefeated Regular Season; Now 31-0 After 67-50 Win Over Florida
On Senior Day, senior walk-ons Tod Lanter, Brian Long, and Sam Malone started for UK for about 22 seconds and then were put back in to be on the floor for the final 46 seconds of Kentucky's 67-50 win over Florida.
Love the gesture.
And that, folks, wraps up a 31-0 regular season for the Wildcats who become the first SEC team to enter the post-season undefeated since the 1953-54 season. That team, however, chose not to play in the NCAA Tournament. Feels like the 50s were weird.
It's also the second straight year that any team has done it. Wichita State pulled off the rare feat in 2013-2014.b
So the 'Cats become the second team in as many years to run the SEC table in the regular season. Florida did it last year. Also, it looks like UK will win the conference by 5 games after Arkansas was upset at home by an LSU buzzer beater on Saturday afternoon.
Kentucky's march toward perfection will continue next Friday at noon when they will suit up as the top seed in the SEC Tournament in Nashville. They will take on the winner of the 8/9 game which, at this point, looks like it will be either Alabama or, whaddya know, Florida again.
Whether you're a UK fan or not, this is a fascinating story to watch unfold.
