Videographers Capture Humbling Flood Imagery Across KY
Within the last 18 months or so, I've had need for drone imagery of Kentucky's waterfalls, national parks, and beautiful small towns. And there's been one videographer who's eye has the "magic touch," as it were.
Kentucky Flooding
His name is Ben Childers, and if you want a stunning video of, say, Cumberland Falls or the Chain in the Rock or anywhere he can take his drone, really, he's your go-to guy. I've gone down the rabbit hole with this guy's work and it's never a boring dive. However, sadness is the overarching emotion as I look at Ben's most recent work. Today, and for the next several days, Kentucky will be facing disastrous flooding issues from border to border as rivers rise in the wake of nearly a week's worth of rain.
Flooding in Frankfort
Having just been in Frankfort a few months ago, it was very humbling to see this.
Ben's drone camera was also dispatched to Clay City, about 40 miles southwest of Lexington. The small Powell County town of about 1,100 people is surrounded on three sides by the Red River and is located at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, exacerbating the flooding from the river.
Daviess County Flooding
In Daviess County, as of this afternoon, there are 45 roads that have been closed due to high water.
Flooding in Dawson Springs
And down in Dawson Springs, this is what it looked like after 9.5 inches of rain fell, and this was two days ago.
Flooding in Bowling Green
This was the scene on and near the Western Kentucky University campus Friday. Classes were cancelled for Monday, April 7th.
Flooding in Paducah
In Paducah, the massive flood wall is earning its keep as the Ohio River rises.
