Thursday, June 27th is National HIV Testing Day in the United States. The theme of this year's testing campaign is "Level up your self-love: check your status." According to the Centers for Disease Control, the 2024 theme "emphasizes valuing yourself; showing yourself compassion and respect, and honoring your health needs with self-love." Organizations like Matthew 25 AIDS Services here in western Kentucky routinely talk about how important it is to "know your status." This free testing event gives you the opportunity to do just that.

Matthew 25 AIDS Services is again partnering with Walgreens to host three different test sites here in western Kentucky. There will be locations in Owensboro, Henderson and Bowling Green. Participants who stop by to get tested will receive a $15 Walmart gift card (while supplies last) just for doing so. By the way, the CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get HIV tested at least once during their lifetimes. The virus does not discriminate. Anyone can become infected.
In addition to providing gift cards to people who stop by and test, there will also be Matthew 25 swag, gift bags, and information about services provided by the agency. No appointment is necessary and the test is a simple finger prick test with results in less than sixty seconds.

There is some paperwork that needs to be filled out in advance of the test, but it's completely confidential.
Matthew 25 AIDS Services operates four clinics in our region. That region includes 25 Kentucky counties and 12 in southern Indiana. There are clinical offices in Owensboro (KY), Henderson (KY), Bowling Green (KY) and Evansville (IN). They're currently treating over 800 HIV patients and that number continues to grow. That's why testing is vitally important. Remember, know your status!
In addition to HIV testing and treatment, Matthew 25 AIDS Services also offers PrEP services.
To qualify for eligibility, you must simply have insurance and be HIV negative. The agency also does Hepatitis C testing, care coordination and treatment. **There are gift card incentives for both PrEP and Hepatitis C as well.
In the event you test positive for HIV during National HIV Testing Day on the 27th, the experts at Matthew 25 AIDS Services immediately take action. They will provide education and counseling and will immediately coordinate care and medication services. Those services are infinite.
