Winter Storm Watch Issued For Southeast Missouri And Western Kentucky
Just days after Winter Storm Blair dumped snow, sleet, and freezing rain on much of Kentucky, another winter storm is brewing. Thankfully, this system won't bring anymore freezing rain. Because of this week's Arctic blast, the ice that fell Sunday and Monday hasn't gone anywhere. It's exceptionally cold outside and much of the Commonwealth of Kentucky remains an ice rink. The new system, however, is going to bring the chance for relatively large amounts of accumulating snow.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, with impacts expected to begin early Friday morning. In their Hazardous Weather Outlook, the NWS gives a preview of the approaching storm.
A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect for portions of far Southeast Missouri and Western Kentucky from late Thursday night into early Friday night. Accumulating snowfall is likely across the entire region with impacts to travel expected. Refer to the statement for more details.
Here's a look at the current Winter Storm Watch coverage map. You'll notice that much of western, central, and eastern Kentucky sits withing that watch area.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the system could bring 4 or more inches of snow.
Significant travel impacts are anticipated due to the precipitation which will begin to fall late Thursday night through Friday evening.
Experts are still monitoring the expected track of the storm and we'll keep you posted on additional updates and details. To stay up-to-date on the latest news and weather, download our station app.
