And I guess you could try this at home if you just happen to have a metal plate and a tone generator.

Yeah, me too. So I wonder if something like a tuning fork would work. Then again, those aren't the most common items in the cupboard, either. But maybe they'd be easier to find.

Naturally, you'll have plenty of salt. And, again, I wonder if it has to be salt because of its elemental and chemical properties.
