Chadwick Benefield

Word to yo mama! Thanks for reading my bio. I have hand-crafted it with love and tenderness to give you a sneak peak inside my soul. I am entering my 16th year working at WBKR and just can't believe how quickly the years have flown by. If you listen to The WBKR Waking Crew, thanks! If you don't . . . thanks. LOL! Though I work here at The Country Station, I love all kinds of music and my iPod is loaded up with everything from Thomas Rhett to Katy Perry to Emeli Sande to Kings of Leon to Garth Brooks to Kelly Clarkson to Fall Out Boy to Matchbox Twenty to that little wrecking ball Miley Cyrus. I am an avid tennis fan (I've played my whole life and it is my absolute favorite sport) and I run every single day. In fact, that's how I dropped 30 pounds in 18 months. And I love watching television to wind down. My favorite shows are all over the place just like my tastes in music. I love The Blacklist, The X Factor, Sleepy Hollow, The Biggest Loser, Dexter (though he's done), Project Runway, RuPaul's Drag Race, The Long Island Medium, Storm Chasers, American Horror Story, The Amazing Race and pretty much anything on The Tennis Channel or ESPN. I vacation . . . a lot! I love Mexico and any place I can get to on a cruise ship.

It's been a couple of years since Whitney Merritt spent her high school year at Owensboro High School interning here at the WBKR studios.  And since then, she's been busy working and going to school and pursuing her real passion- singing.  In the last couple of years, Whitney has auditioned for The X Factor (she got a call back) and The Voice and she's been playing guitar and posting videos on YouTube.  We thought we'd share one with you.  Check this out.  In this clip, Whitney is taking on one of our absolute favorite songs of the 1980's . . . Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn."  See what you think!

There’s No Country Here: Young Girl Sings about Terrible Country Music [Video]

I know a lot of you are going to agree with this young lady.  In many ways, I agree with her.  A few years ago (way back in 2000), George Strait and Alan Jackson sang and lamented about "Murder on Music Row" and suggested that real country music was on its way to becoming a homicide victim.  Now, there seems to be another witness for the prosecution.  Check this out!  Melody Williamson has written a song called "There's No Country Here," an in-depth analysis and criticism of the music you're hearing on contemporary country radio.  Take a listen!  This kid's got a point.

Owensboro Woman Petitions to Keep Convicted Cop Killer in Prison

They've already gotten thousands of signatures.  But Michelle Wiesman (of Owensboro) and her family won't stop until they're certain that they have enough petition signatures to make a difference . . . again.  In April of 2010, Michelle's brother, Officer Bryan Durman, was killed in the line of duty.  And now, after serving just under 4 years of a 20-year prison term, his killer, Glenn Rahan Doneghy, is eligible for parole.

Dying to Play The Serial Killer Trivia Game?

Psychological fact:  People who are fascinated by serial killers were rated 70 times more interesting conversationalists compared to those who are not.  Okay!  So, I'm not sure if that's true.  But it definitely sounds like it could be true and I have some conversation to make right now.  In fact, I have a deep, dark confession to make.  I am REALLY fascinated by serial killers.  I loved the show Dexter.  I watch Kevin Bacon's serial killer drama The Following religiously.  One of my favorite movies ever is Zodiac.  And I own The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers as a coffee table book.  And, now, I really want to own this!  The Serial Killer Trivia Game!
