Moon Mullins

I was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas. I began my Country Radio career at KLLL in Lubbock, TX. Some of the places I have lived and played Country music on the radio include Kansas City, Louisville, Nashville and many other ports over the years. I have programmed some legendary stations: WDAF, Kansas City, WHN, New York City; WSM, Nashville and KVOO, Tulsa. None has been as much fun as WBKR right here in Owensboro. I enjoy fine scotch and wine. I love Major League Baseball and my team of choice is the New York Yankees. I exercise regularly at Health Park and listen to my music collection while doing so. My wife, Debra and I watch some Bravo TV shows and from time to time i make her watch an old Sopranos DVD or an episode of Mad Men.

And, since I dig Kimberly Perry a LOT I thought I'd start with the little darlin' from The Band Perry.

"Just a boy and his dog", wrote Red Foley in the Country Classic, "Old Shep". Unlike the boy in the song, I didn't have to put my own dog down. She wasn't that old, maybe 13, but she ate table scraps and that will shorten a dog's life, though it may make it a happier one.

January 8, 1978, Start of Worst Winter in History

It was a Sunday afternoon, January 8, 1978, when I went into work at WINN, Louisville. It was an unusually warm morning but we knew a cold front was coming in and expected snow flurries. Being the first birthday after Elvis Presley's death the previous August, I planned to play all of Elvis's hits in chronological order.

As I took took to the airwaves with stacks of Elvis tunes on 45's, lp's and a few tapes, I began with the Sun Sessions from 1955.  As I forecast snow flurries every fifteen minutes, little did I know what was piling up outside.
