This year, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital celebrates its 50th anniversary.  It was 1962 that Danny Thomas' dream of creating an institution to battle catastrophic childhood illnesses came true.  And, this week on The Country Station, we are continuing our pledge to help raise money for St. Jude so that "no child may die in the dawn of life."  And, we are raising money in a variety of ways above and beyond our 26-hour radiothon!  In fact, last night, at our 2nd annual 'Denim and Diamonds' concert fundraiser, local artist Aaron Kizer joined us to unveil an exciting piece of artwork we are auctioning for the hospital!  It's currently on Ebay and we want you (and everyone) to check it out!

"Denim & Diamonds" is coming up Friday night and we're giving you yet another reason to get your tickets!  Jaclyn and I have been hard at work with Matt Gray at Gray Sky Studios here in Owensboro.  We are putting finishing touches on our 2012 original song for St. Jude, "Dreamer."  I wrote it.  Jac's singing it (with help from Katie Beste from Mount Vernon, Indiana) and Matt arranged it.  And you can get a sneak peak preview Friday night at our concert fundraiser for St. Jude, 'Denim and Diamonds" presented by Daniel Dick State Farm Insurance.

I think this is a great thing these cell phone companies are doing to help out victims of domestic violence! Wireless Zone, a premier authorized retailer of Verizon Wireless, will donate $10 for every phone purchased at its stores in Evansville, Henderson and Owensboro on Saturday, February 18, as part of its regular, third-Saturday “Give Back Day” program. Verizon Wireless will add to the Wireless Zone donation by adding $10, up to a total donation of $5,000 to each organization.

Here at WBKR, we are so excited about "Denim & Diamonds," the concert fundraiser for St. Jude!  The big show is Friday, February 17th at the Theatre Workshop Opryhouse.  We are THRILLED to welcome to town rising country star Darren Warren.  You are going to be blown away by Darren's story.  As a teenager, he found himself at St. Jude as a patient.  Today, he's back at St. Jude as a survivor.  A survivor doing everything in his power to make sure that "no child should die in the dawn of life."  Jaclyn and I have had the pleasure of becoming friends with Darren and can't wait for you guys to meet him and hear his story at 'Denim & Diamonds."  To give you a preview of what to expect, we want to share some video of Darren from our recent trip down to Memphis.
