Based on your votes for the songs that made the top ten of the 2015 Big BKR Smackdown, I have to call 2015 an encouraging year in country music.

Sure, their were some who would have preferred another song be at the top of that countdown--and it won't be listed here--but we did things the democratic way, and it WAS the day's top vote-getter.

All in all, Wednesday was a BLAST, thanks to you guys!

Now, on to the songs I have a BLAST listening to every chance I get:

10. Homegrown by The Zac Brown Band

That GROOVE! Seriously, a rhythm that gets stuck in your head and a bizarre and incredibly welcome abandoning of same with 30 seconds to go and you have one of Zac's best ever.

9. I Met a Girl by William Michael Morgan

Refreshingly simple country music with a deceptively clever lyric about a young lady who apparently writes the book on turning one young cowboy's head. Oh, and yeah, newcomer Morgan wears a COWBOY HAT! Where have THEY been?

8. Blue Bandana by Jerrod Niemann

I've never heard confirmation that this is a true story, but I've always assumed it is because it's a GREAT story about a girl who turns up at every single one of the growing number of music festivals for which she can secure tickets. SURELY, that girl is out there somewhere.

7. Smoke Break by Carrie Underwood

Carrie seldom appears in this space because she so often uses her 5-megaton vocal gifts to plaster a song to the back wall. (And, of course, what do I know--she's never peaked lower than #2 in ten years of solo hits.) But this shows off a subtler side, a more world-weary side, a COUNTRIER side. God bless her...and the hard-working folks about whom she's singing.

6. Like a Wrecking Ball by Eric Church

Eric and his wife have a pretty passionate thing going, don't they?

5. White Lightnin' by The Cadillac Three

These gritty southern rockers remain wise beyond their years in this smoking tribute to THEIR own "wrecking ball."

4. Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton

Country music emerged from the blues WA-A-A-AY back in the day. In 2015, Chris Stapleton recorded one of George Jones' very best (a Top 5 smash for the Possum in 1983) and brought us full circle.

3. It Feels Good by Drake White

We've already talked about the merging of blues and country. So what about some swampy funk and country? It's a great combination! Thank you, Drake White! You're absolutely right...it feels GOOD!

2. Burning House by Cam

A relationship is going up in flames like a burning house. I guess that analogy could've been delivered to us in any of several ways. Thankfully, Cam and co-writers Tyler Johnson and Jeff Bhasker--who also produced--presented it THIS way. An extraordinary stop-you-dead-in-your-tracks #1 platinum smash.

1. Nobody to Blame by Chris Stapleton

He covered George Jones with Tennessee Whiskey, but I feel Chris really CHANNELED the legend on this one. Jaclyn said it best when she dubbed it "new wave George Jones." I mean those lyrics and the regret in that peerless vocal performance! There's even a jacked-up John Deere in the second verse! You know the Possum has gotta be lookin' down and smilin' about THAT!
