Dave’s Top 10 of ’12: #1 – So You Don’t Have to Love Me Anymore by Alan Jackson [VIDEO]

Devastating.

It’s a word I’ve used before when Alan Jackson has gone all cry-in-your-beer on us. Remember that song, “Gone Crazy?”

Sensational! And this one’s better.

Yes, Jay Knowles and Alan’s nephew, Adam Wright, have written the best song of 2012 and one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.

I just stared off into space the first time I listened to this aching narrative of a bruised relationship that became a difficult break-up for two people who needed to part, but weren’t quite sure how to do it.

Alan’s the guy trying to make it easy on his one-time better half so that hurt can be avoided. But it isn’t working.

I’ve heard some say that the song could be read as arrogant. I don’t get that at all. This is a painful separation for all involved. And Alan expertly makes us feel every single bit of it.

This is great, great country music.
