Groundbreaking in Downtown Owensboro for Convention Center and Hotel

Many former city and county leaders joined their current counterparts today for a groundbreaking ceremony at 2nd Street and Cedar in Owensboro. Owensboro Mayor Roy Payne, Daviess County Judge Executive Al Mattingly were joined by Owensboro developer Malcolm Bryant spoke to the crowd of 300 or so citizens.The Convention Center will cost $48.4 million dollars. Mayor Payne said conventions are already being booked for 2014 and 2015.

Malcolm Bryant, developer of the 20 million dollar Hampton Inn and Suites hotel, thanked his wife Sally, for bringing him to Owensboro 20 years ago. The hotel will have 151 rooms and will be located just east of the Convention Center.
