If you love to canoe and/or kayak, I mean, it is the weather for it, check out this trip coming up on Saturday.

The Trail Task Forces in both Ohio County and in McLean County are presenting this event which will take paddlers along the upper Rough River. I have some good friends who have been working for the last several years on making the trail towns a reality here in the area, so go and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

The launch site for the trip will be the bridge on Sunnydale Road off of KY 69 outside of Hartford. The launch area is just before the bridge; you can offload your craft and park alongside the gravel road. It's requested paddlers do not drive or park on the cropland.

Vehicles will be available to shuttle paddlers back to the Sunnydale launch site if needed. Southern Outdoors of Livermore (270-278-3043) will have kayaks/canoes to rent, and they can provide shuttle service. Shuttle services fees may vary due to the greater than usual shuttle distance.

The trip is estimated to be 12 miles and will take around 5-6 hours of paddle time depending on the river flow. It's recommended paddlers bring snacks, bottled water, a life preserver, and sunscreen. Oh, and you will probably want to bring your rain gear, just in case.

The launch begins at 7:30 a.m. this Saturday, July 17th.
