Londun Randolph has been singing her whole life. I would bet money she was even making music in the womb. Is that right Rev. Randolph? Now, I haven't known her since birth, but we go way back!

Since we are both performers, we were in Rose Curtain Players together in high school and have had fun gracing the stage together over the years at Theatre Workshop of Owensboro. She is a crowd favorite at the Cabaret Nights not just because her voice is amazing, but because she tells the best stories about the songs she chooses. Which also happen to usually be some you would least expect. She has a velvety R&B style and loves to do her own versions of songs by bands like Guns and Roses or Queen.

Londun's creativity when it comes to music adds excitement to her performances. A couple of years ago when we were working on a show together, she told me she wanted to host a series of shows called "Let it Out With Londun" where she could make her own rules and not be tied down to any particular genre or style. She wanted an event where she could invite guests from all over the city to join her and showcase who they are and what they do. Well, in true Londun form, she has made it happen!

I attended her first Let it Out and the whole place ended up in a sing-a-long to Killing Me Softly (Fugees version) with Londun and LaTasha Shemwell. We were all dancing and singing and laughing. It was an absolute blast.

For the second Let it Out, she asked me to join her as her special guest. Knowing I love to paint, she had the idea for me to create a piece of artwork live while she sang. We also sang a duet together, Reba's Does He Love You? Londun incorporated some comedy and sketches as well as a little interview session with me about how important it is to make time to do the things you enjoy. I painted Londun as a bright and beautiful sun because she is such a light in this world!

Something I love about these events is that people from all over Owensboro come to enjoy a night of entertainment and fun. City leaders and community members get together for a night of fellowship to support small businesses and local musicians who are beyond talented. Jehvion Thames and JaMichael Morton kill it on the keys and drums. They will be the featured guests this time as Londun interviews them so the audience can learn more about who they are and what they do.

Tickets are only $30 and that includes a delicious dinner. The past two events have been the most amazing soul food and this Let it Out, the trend continues. Serving up some gumbo and jalapeno cornbread that will make you smack your mama. With the weather cooling off, this will be a perfect dish.
