From Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. They arr preparing to open the new Pleasant Valley Road Connector at US 60 in Owensboro.  The tentative opening date is Wednesday, August 24, 2011.

In anticipation of this opening next week, KYTC Traffic Engineers plan to turn the traffic signal to flash mode at the US 60/Pleasant Valley Road Connector intersection tomorrow.
Plans are to open the connector and turn the signal to normal red-yellow-green operation on Wednesday, August 24, 2011.

We are asking drivers to proceed through this intersection with appropriate caution. The first few days after we turn on a new signal on a high speed roadway can be dicey because mainline traffic is not prepared to stop at the new signal location.

We have incorporated several safety features to make this intersection as safe as possible. We have installed advance warning beacons, GES detection, intersection lighting, and high visibility traffic signal heads.  Variable message boards will also be in operation for a period of time to alert motorists to the new traffic signal.

Motorists who travel through this new intersection on US 60 between KY 54/New Hartford Road and Old US 60 should use extra caution and be alert for changes in traffic flow this new traffic signal will bring to the area.

This signal and new intersection is a temporary arrangement until Pleasant Valley Road is tied into Phase 2 of the US 60 Extension Project at Owensboro.

This connection was essentially created to give unimpeded access to the new hospital until the second phase of the bypass is complete . The concern was the other main roads leading to the new hospital had rail crossings which could impede transport of patients during emergency situations.
