Kentucky State Police are encouraging citizens to download a new app called KSPOLICE which allow better and quicker communication with the law enforcement agency.

The KSPOLICE App, a free mobile app available in the Apple and Google Play stores, offers many features including a voice messaging tip line, the ability to send a photo tip, and access to the sex offender registry.

But it's the geo-targeting function that most excites State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer who says, "We can now choose a specific city, county, region or even a particular building and geo-target that location with an emergency push notification message."

He believes this will be highly valuable in situations involving traffic issues, severe weather, missing persons, and escaped convicts.

But Brewer also insists that this new app in NO WAY replaces 911.

That will always be our first order of business in an emergency.

But now, thanks to KSPOLICE, we can assume a more active role in crime prevention.
