If someone from Jamaica is calling your cell phone and telling you that you've won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes, guess what?  You haven't.  And, chances are, you are dangerously close to falling for a scam that seems to have made its way to the tri-state.

Laura Casebier of Owensboro is one of our most valued Christmas Wish volunteers.  We know Laura well and came across her urgent Facebook post today.  This morning, Laura received multiple calls to her cell phone from a number in Jamaica.  She actually answered one of the calls and this is what happened.

From Laura:

Some idiot has called my cell phone twice trying to tell me he was with Publishers Clearing House telling me I won $135,000 plus $5000 a week for life and a new car. (And) I needed to go to a place and send them 99 dollars and my bank info so they could deposit my money after the prize patrol arrives today, but I should keep my business confidential. They also want me to fax them two forms of my ID so they can be assured that they are giving to the right person. Time is of the essence of course since the (prize patrol) van is in our area.

Clearly, Laura knows better.  But she shared this information to warn others.  And we are sharing it because other folks in the WBKR listening area may be getting the same kinds of calls.  And, as Laura will tell you, the folks on the other end of the line are persistent.  Laura has received four calls from the same number this morning alone.

So, heads up!  If someone calls you and tells you that you've won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes . . . and you think that's just too good to be true . . . it probably is. And, apparently, these types of Publishers Clearing House-related scams are nothing new.  In fact, the real Publishers Clearing House recently posted a list of ways to spot a scam.  Check it out by CLICKING HERE!
