Popular WBKR St. Jude Patient Ella Gets Own Website

"I don't understand why God chose me to have to fight the battle against cancer.  But I do know, that once I survive, I will try my hardest to make sure that no child ever has to do this again."  That quote comes directly from Ella Dreamer, a St. Jude patient who is battling a rare and deadly form of cancer known as adrenalcorticolcarcinoma.  If you have tuned into the WBKR/Poole's Pharmacy Care St. Jude Radiothon the last two years, you have heard Ella's story, told by her mother Jeanna, who has become a staple of our broadcasts and annual fundraising mission.  The Dreamers continue their battle against childhood cancer and continue to inspire everyone who knows or encounters them with their strength.  The latest development in this story . . . Ella continues to survive and she has taken her story to the Internet.

They were inspired to write an original song to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and you can help out by purchasing it.

Jaclyn’s Studio Session of St. Jude Song “Dreamer”

Each year, for our St. Jude Radiothon, I write original music to honor the hospital and its patients and patients families.  This year's song is called "Dreamer" and is inspired by the story of Jeanna Dreamer and her young daughter, Ella, who is fighting a rare form of cancer that has resurfaced after a glorious six months in which Ella was cancer-free.  A couple of weeks ago, Jaclyn recorded the song at Gray Sky Music (with the help of our good buddy, Matt Gray) and we shot some footage!  Here's Jaclyn's studio session of "Dreamer!"

The WBKR St. Jude Radiothon Is Happening Tomorrow and Friday

I have stocked up on tissues because the St. Jude Radiothon is tomorrow and Friday. I'm going to get one of those metallic paper towel holder thingies, stack a few rolls of t.p., and get ready to raise some money. There is nothing like ending childhood disease and cancer to make your day a little bit brighter....even when you have tears in your eyes.

Local Artist Paints Danny Thomas for St. Jude Radiothon!

This year, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital celebrates its 50th anniversary.  It was 1962 that Danny Thomas' dream of creating an institution to battle catastrophic childhood illnesses came true.  And, this week on The Country Station, we are continuing our pledge to help raise money for St. Jude so that "no child may die in the dawn of life."  And, we are raising money in a variety of ways above and beyond our 26-hour radiothon!  In fact, last night, at our 2nd annual 'Denim and Diamonds' concert fundraiser, local artist Aaron Kizer joined us to unveil an exciting piece of artwork we are auctioning for the hospital!  It's currently on Ebay and we want you (and everyone) to check it out!
