‘Cats Ranked #1…and It All Started in Vegas [VIDEO]
What happens in Vegas might stay in Vegas. But after Saturday night, what happened in Vegas had a major effect more than 1300 miles away.

Ahead of tonight's superstar matchup between Kentucky and Kansas in Madison Square Garden, both head coaches--UK's John Calipari and Kansas' Bill Self--got a chance to assess their teams and their opponents. Coach Cal doesn't think the 'Cats are very good right now, while Coach Self believes his Jayhawks are much deeper than people realize.
Oh, I bet there was rear-end chewin' in the UK locker room after this one. UK Wildcats Terrence Jones and Stacy Poole were involved in a car accident at 2AM. They were hit by a drunk driver. The players were NOT drunk. But the late night shenanigans have prompted Coach John Calipari to issue a season-long curfew for the 'Cats.
10-0. 16-0. 29-0. Those were some of the runs the Kentucky Wildcats had against Morehouse College in Monday night's exhibition game. Kentucky unloaded on the Maroon Tigers with a 125-40 win that made head coach John Calipari very happy. No, he's not an ogre, he's just pleased that the 'Cats responded to directives and came out and played well. Uh, forgive the understatement.
Last Wednesday night, Transylvania fans were given quite an entertaining and promising show by their beloved Pioneers...for about five minutes. Then the Kentucky Wildcats turned the lights on, and it was lights out as UK rolled to a 97-53 victory in its first exhibition match-up of the 2011-2012 basketball season. Tonight, the tw0-game exhibition season wraps up as the 'Cats take on Morehouse College.
I'm getting kind of excited. As you may know, I'm a HUGE college basketball fan. And if it's a team in Kentucky they have my support. Of course, I love my Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. And, trust me, I'm well aware that it's practically "impossible" to support both UK and Louisville, but somehow I manage. But it's November and the season is here. And tonight, the Wildcats begin exhibition play against Transylvania.
Monday night you can hear the Big Blue All-Stars vs. the Villains at 6:30. When Christian Laettner walks into Rupp Arena, I'll be waiting for the earth to quake and the waters to rise up. Won't we all? I mean, say it ain't so. The most hated nemesis in the history of University of Kentucky basketball actually setting foot inside its mother church? All I can say is...INGENIOUS!
Before the University of Kentucky Big Blue All-Stars battle Christian Laettner's Villains at Rupp Arena on October 24th, they will play Kentucky Wesleyan.
It's the Fall Classic. No, I don't mean the World Series. THAT Fall Classic is still a few weeks away. I'm talking about THIS Fall Classic--Big Blue Madness.
What are the characteristics of a “legend”? First, I think a legend can be anyone or anything. John Wayne was a legend. The Ford Mustang is a legend. “I Love Lucy” is a legend. I wanted to make sure you understood my personal definition of a legend, because I’m going to throw a legendary structure into that mix—Rupp Arena, home of the UK Wildcats. And why did I ask the question that opened the post? Because I think, sometimes, legends must retire or be retired. See, I've heard rumblings and seen stories and I think we’re headed in that direction with regards to Lexington’s legendary sports facility.
University of Kentucky head basketball coach John Calipari is a great recruiter. That is no secret. University of Kentucky head basketball coach John Caliapari has a great big heart. That, too, is no secret. But now, Coach Cal has combined those two highly valued assets and has essentially re-invented the whole recruiting process. At the same time, he's allowing former UK players unable to work due to the NBA lockout to use the university's practice facilities AND continue their education, if need be. The man is a stone cold genius.
Back in February, the University of Kentucky had a great big celebration in honor of head basketball coach John Calipari's 500th victory. Confetti, a big cake, pin the tail on the donkey--you know, the works! Everybody had a very good time...except the NCAA. Because in their eyes--and according to their official records--John Calipari does NOT own 500 victories.
